The expectorant action of Guaiphenesin increases the flow of natural secretions along the lower respiratory tract. This liquefying effect helps loosen congestion so that it can be coughed up to clear the chest. Dextromethorphan Hydrobromideis a cough suppressant that helps control the cough for up to 8 hours.
